Building a 380-room, five-star hotel in Enugu within a year
On Tuesday, the Enugu State Executive Council gave its approval to build a five-star hotel with 380 rooms at the International Conference Centre in Enugu within a year.

The China Communication and Construction Company was given the contract.
Additionally, the council approved a N100 billion agreement with Pragmatic Palms Limited to revive the defunct Enugu State United Palm Products Limited.
The state’s commissioners for works and infrastructure, transportation, culture and tourism, and agriculture and agro-industrialization, Patrick Ubru, Dame Madueke, Gerald Otiji, and Dr. Obi Ozor briefed journalists shortly after the meeting at Government House. They stated that these actions supported the administration’s goal of making the state the top location for living, business, investment, and tourism.
Today, the council gave its approval to build a five-star hotel on the grounds of the International Conference Center. 380 rooms and other top-notch amenities make up the hotel, where the top brands will vie for partnership in this venture.
“We also authorized the N100 billion agreement to revitalize the United Palm Products Limited (UPPL) deal in Enugu State. UPPL is a state asset situated in three LGAs: Umulokpa in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Ibite-Olo in Eziagu LGA, and Ugwuoba in Oji River LGA. We are discussing 6,700 hectares in all, of which only 2,000 have been planted with palms, so it is not entirely covered.
According to Otiji, “our partners are providing the financing for the remaining 60% of the transaction value, with the state contributing the remaining 40%, which is the value of our land or assets.”
Giving specifics about the five-star hotel, Madueke stated that the planned establishment would have a significant impact on the state’s tourist and hospitality sectors as well as the overall economy.
She clarified that the lack of a five-star hotel in the state was the cause of the low number of foreign planes arriving in Enugu as well as the state’s incapacity to hold lucrative conferences such as the Nigerian Bar Association.
“You will concur with me that this will strengthen Enugu as the center of Igboland as well as our economy,” she said.
According to Ubru, the revival of the United Palm Products Limited would enable Enugu State generate foreign cash, establish the state as one of the leading producers of oil palm products, and create jobs. More businesses will be brought back to life, and more employment will be produced.
The administration has started the first phase of the Transport Infrastructure Project, according to Ozor, the Commissioner for Transportation. This initiative includes the Enugu Central Station, which is located next to the Holy Ghost Cathedral, the Gariki Central Station, the Abakpa Central Station, and the Nsukka Central Station.
According to him, it was a component of the state government’s endeavor to establish an economical, effective, and sustainable transportation network in the state and to use the transportation industry as a major engine of economic growth to raise the state’s GDP from its current level of $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
